Still Life 15 - Low Key

Posted by Ellenina in Uncategorized

This was fun.  I kindof overworked the back side of the globe and some tweaking could be done to the shadow, but I don’t think it’s too bad for a 3 hour painting.

Still Life 14 - High Key

Posted by Ellenina in Uncategorized

Next up is a High Key painting.  I was going to use white shells in a glass bowl, but then thought better of it.  I need to be realistic in what I can accomplish in the time allowed for my assignments.  So I went with cup and saucer (actually a bread plate), lemon, and tea bag.  I think it turned out okay.  This was a loss-stress painting!

Still Life 13 - Fabric

One Word: YIKES!  Painting the illusion of fabric is much harder than I imagined.  I do okay with pencil rendering of fabric, but painting it is tough.

Still Life 12 - Colorful

Posted by Ellenina in Uncategorized

So for this assignment I decided to pick spools of thread.  I had them on a dark background, but decided that lighter would be better.

It was painted on a 12″ x 16″ gesso board and was a B****to paint.  I think I like canvas better.  : )egaston_hmwrk3_setup.jpg   egaston_hmwrk3_final.jpg

Still Life 11 - Bird’s Eye View

A few onions, a knife, a cutting board and… no elipses!!!!  I like how this one turned out.

Still Life 10 - Pattern

Posted by Ellenina in Uncategorized

Had to paint a patterned object this go round…  Wish I had more time to paint.  This took about 4 hours. I know it could have been better if I had more time!!

Still Life 9 - Group with Glass and Silver

Posted by Ellenina in Uncategorized

This was another assignment we had combining the glass and reflective objects. I kindof ran out of time and didn’t have a chance to fix the elipse on the glass.  But I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Still Life 8 - Silver Reflective Object

This was more fun than the brass.  I think I’m getting the hang of it!  And I love painting pears…

Still Life 7 - Reflective object

Posted by Ellenina in Paintings

So now I’ve moved on to exercises with reflective objects. This first one is brass.  It was harder than I thought! This is the setup and the finished painting.

Still Life 6 - Glass

Whoa.  Learning how to paint glass was interesting…  In concept it’s easy: paint what’s behind the glass.  In execution - not so easy.  I had to short change this assignment a little - only spent 2 hours on it.  I do like the distortion, but I should have spent more time on the shadows.  Oh, well.  On to “highly reflective surfaces” next!!!
